an intereactive, thematic approach to teaching geographic perspective
on conflict, genocide, and human rights
This interactive workshop will focus on genocide, conflict and human rights. With an emphasis on geography, we will analyze the ways land, lack of resources, and environmental
conditions contribute to the oppression that leads to violence. The workshop will introduce technology-driven methods and will examine conflict from various disciplinary perspectives.
This workshop is in memory of Dr. Rex Honey, a Professor of Geography at the University of Iowa who passed away in 2010. Dr. Honey was a tireless advocate for human rights and was co-founder for the UI Center for Human Rights. Rex was a friend and mentor to many Iowa educators, and all the GAI profoundly misses the guidance, goodwill, expertise, and passion that he brought to the alliance.
